The Vitality T20 Blast was established by England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) in 2003 and was the first professional Twenty20 cricket league in the world. The competition is contested by the 18 first class counties all competing for the coveted Vitality Blast title.

The teams are split into two divisions, the North Group and South Group. The top four teams in each division progress through to the playoffs, to battle it out until one emerges victorious in the T20 Vitality Blast Final.

Ahead of the 2023 season, the league have announced that they will be holding the very first Vitality T20 Blast Off at Edgbaston Stadium, featuring four teams facing off on the same day!

When and where is Vitality T20 Blast Off?

The inaugural Vitality T20 Blast Off event to kick off the new season of Twenty20 action will take place on the 20th of May 2023.

The spectacular day of cricket will be contested at the iconic Edgbaston stadium in Warwickshire, known for its rich cricketing history.

The ground hosted its first test match in 1902 and has become a hotspot for the highest level of Twenty20 cricket, hosting the Vitality Blast finals 14 times, more than any other venue.

Who’s playing at Vitality T20 Blast Off?

T20 Blast off will be Vitality blasts first ever opening day double header and will feature four of the league's top teams going head-to-head, as their battle for T20 dominance reignites.

The first match of the day will be contested by Birmingham Bears and Yorkshire Vikings. Edgbaston is the home ground of the Bears, who suffered a crushing defeat to Hampshire Hawks in the quarter-finals of last year's playoffs. The 82 - 186 loss was a major upset for the Birmingham side after they finished top of their division.

Yorkshire Vikings only just squeezed into the playoffs last year, finishing fourth in the North Group. But the Northern team went one better than their Birmingham counterparts, bowing out in the semi-finals after a close 204 -208 defeat to Lancashire.

The second game of the day will see Derbyshire Falcons take on Lancashire Lightning in a huge top of the table clash.

After a strong season finishing third in the North Group, the Falcons met a disappointing end losing 265 - 74 to eventual competition winners Hampshire Hawks in the quarterfinals of the playoffs.

Their opponents, Lancashire, powered right into the Vitality Blast final last year, finishing second in the North Group and beating out Essex Eagles and Yorkshire Vikings in the playoff rounds. However, the team will be hoping to go one better this year, as they fell to defeat by Hampshire Hawks in the final, losing by just one run.

With the top four teams in the North Group all facing off on the same day, the Vitality T20 Blast Off will no doubt be a highly competitive and entertaining day of cricket.
