The history

In its relatively short history-since the stadium’s opening in 1999 - the Principality Stadium has played host to countless mammoth test rugby matches. Most recently, the stadium played host to Wales’ Grand Slam winning campaign in the 2019 Guinness Six Nations. Over the years it has seen the Welsh Rugby Team lift the Six Nations trophy on five occasions with three of those being Grand Slams under Warren Gatland.

The atmosphere

The Principality Stadium is world-renowned for its incredible hair-raising atmosphere-most notably the unrivalled rendition of the Welsh Rugby National Anthem, which often sees 74,500 fans singing their hearts out in unison before each match. Awash with a sea of red Welsh jerseys with a splattering of yellow dandelion costumes, the Principality Stadium creates a hostile yet enjoyable atmosphere for anyone visiting the rugby team.

The rugby

As previously mentioned, under the stewardship of Warren Gatland, the Wales Rugby Team has excelled and gained international recognition as one of the best rugby nations in the world. Not only have they won four Six Nations titles in Gatland’s tenure, they also reached the World Cup Semi-Final in 2011 where they came up just short, losing 9-8 to France.

Whether it be the Six Nations, or Autumn International matches against the best from the southern hemisphere, you are sure to be treated to an enthralling spectacle by a Welsh side willing to give their all for their country.
