<h2>Manchester City FC History</h2>
Manchester City Football Club was founded in 1880 as St. Mark's (West Gorton), before being renamed Ardwick Association Football Club in 1887 and finally becoming Manchester City in 1894.
The club experienced its first major success in the 1904-05 season, winning the FA Cup. This was followed by a period of relative success in the 1920s and 1930s, during which the club won two more FA Cups and a First Division title.
Manchester City's fortunes fluctuated in the ensuing years, with the club facing relegation several times. However, the appointment of Joe Mercer as manager, the orchestrator of the club's original golden era in 1965, marked the beginning of a new era for Manchester City. Under Mercer, the club won the Second Division in 1966 and the First Division in 1968, as well as the FA Cup, the League Cup and the European Cup Winners' Cup.
The club's success continued in the following years, with players such as Colin Bell, Francis Lee and Mike Summerbee becoming <a href="https://www.seatunique.com/blog/manchester-city-fc-greatest-players/">club legends</a>. However, Manchester City's fortunes took a turn for the worse in the 1980s and 1990s, with the club being relegated twice and facing financial difficulties.
The club's fortunes began to improve in the early 2000s, following the appointment of Kevin Keegan as manager. Under Keegan, Manchester City gained promotion to the Premier League and enjoyed several successful seasons, including a fifth-place finish in 2004-05.

However, their Champions League title defense came to an end at the quarter-finals, and they lost to local rivals Manchester United in the FA Cup final.
Manchester City have been playing their home games at the Etihad Stadium since 2003. The stadium originally had a capacity of 47,400 but was expanded in 2015 to 53,400.
It was also named the City of Manchester Stadium before being renamed to the Etihad Stadium as part of their kit sponsorship deal with Etihad Airways.
The Etihad is located on the east side of Manchester, 1.5 miles out from Manchester city centre. Manchester Piccadilly Railway Station is the closest station to the stadium, being just a 20-minute walk away.

<h2>Manchester City Rivalries</h2>
Historically, City’s biggest and main rivalry has been with their Manchester neighbours, <a href="https://www.seatunique.com/sport-tickets/football/manchester-united-tickets">Manchester United</a>. It should come as no surprise that two teams based in the same city have a long-standing hatred for each other, with both always wanting to come out on top whenever they face off against one another.
The first official meeting between the two teams took place on November 12, 1881, in a friendly game, which Manchester City won 3-0.
Since then, the two Manchester sides have faced off 189, with United winning the series so far with 78 victories to City’s 58, with 53 draws in total to round it out.
Both sides have experienced great levels of success, but often not together. However, there was a short time in the early 2010s when City were building their power after the takeover and United were still helmed by the legendary manager Sir Alex Ferguson.
There were two standout moments from that period. City’s 6-1 win in the derby at Old Trafford in October 2011, and Wayne Rooney’s spectacular bicycle kick to win the game early in the year. But nothing comes close to the ending of the 2011/12 season.
The season came down to the final game of the year. City needed a win to secure the title, but things weren’t going their way. At the 90-minute mark, they were down 2-1 to QPR, with United’s match already finished with a victory for the Red Devils, meaning the title was going to them.
Remarkably, City got them back level through Edin Dzeko in the 92nd minute, then they found one more attack that made its way to their future all-time top scorer Sergio Aguero, who coolly scored the winning goal to earn City their first league title since 1968.
In recent years, City have had the best of United, who have been going through a reshaping period since Fergie retired in 2013, whilst City have gone on to become a world powerhouse team.
Also more recently, Man City have developed a rivalry with nearby Liverpool FC, as the Reds have also experienced a golden period under Jurgen Klopp. Games between the two have become absolute must-watch football each year.
The two sides have pushed each other to unprecedented levels in English football, with City getting the better of Liverpool domestically, but the Kop boasting another Champions League victory during this time period.
