The Beginning:

In 1873, a football club (how rugby was known at the time) was formed in Gloucester after a meeting at the Spread Eagle Hotel. The announcement was made in the Gloucester Journal, stating that the club's operations would begin at the Spa on the first Tuesday of the following month. The club organised a team to play against the college school, which took place on the current Kingsholm ground.

In 1891, the club acquired lands from the Castle Grim Estate for £4,000, and they have been playing their home fixtures at this site ever since. This area is known as Kingsholm. The team turned professional in 1995 after a set of wins.

Recent Club History:

In 2008, Martin St Quinton acquired 25% of Gloucester Rugby and became vice chairman, focusing on sponsorships and non-playing areas. In the 2007-2008 season, Gloucester Rugby finished on top of the Guinness Premiership but lost in the playoff semi-final. They made it to the EDF Energy Cup Final in the 2008-2009 season but lost to Cardiff.

Tragedy struck the club in 2010 when owner Tom Walkinshaw passed away. Gloucester Rugby won the Anglo-Welsh Cup in the 2010-2011 season and made it to the Premiership playoffs that season.
