Have The Who released new music?
The Who have not released new music since their album, ‘WHO’ was released in late 2019.
The band have expressed concerns about creating new tracks in an age that has moved away from traditional records, while Pete Townshend is reluctant to make a new album because of the “old-fashioned way that they [the band] work”.
However, with such an iconic discography of tracks including ‘Pinball Wizard’ and ‘Baba O’Riley’, fans still flock to see The Who perform live despite their lack of newer releases.
When was the last The Who tour in the UK?
The Who were set to tour the UK in 2019 with a series of dates at venues across Liverpool, Glasgow, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, London, Nottingham, Cardiff and Manchester.
Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus pandemic, The Who’s tour was cancelled and was not re-planned for the UK.
This means that the band have not toured the UK since their 2017 tour, 'Tommy'.
'The Who Hits Back!' tour 2023
In 2022, The Who took off on a two-legged tour across North America as part of their 'The Who Hits Back!' tour. The rock legends played 29 dates across the continent, starting in Hollywood, Florida on the 22nd of April and ending in Las Vegas, Nevada in November.
Having now completed all of their North American dates, ‘The Who Hits Back!’ tour will now travel across the Atlantic and onto European soil.
The band will be joined by a live orchestra and will play dates at stadiums and arenas in cities including Barcelona, Paris, Florence and Berlin across the month of June.
In February of 2022, The Who’s guitarist Pete Townshend confirmed that the band also plan to tour the UK in 2023.
Speaking to Rolling Stone, he noted that the band remains keen to perform for their fans who missed out on seeing them in 2019 but that a tour is not yet officially confirmed.
Townshend also reassured fans that they would have returned to home soil sooner but that insurance laws have meant that they have had to postpone until next year.
