What has happened with the ‘After Hours til Dawn’ tour?

What hasn’t happened with the tour?

The Weeknd, real name Abel Tesfaye, originally announced the ‘After Hours’ arena tour at the end of 2020 to support the ‘After Hours’ album that came out in March 2020.

The tour was scheduled to start in June of that year. However, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, it was postponed by a year until June 2021.

That announcement came in May 2020, after Abel had said in an interview with Variety that the upcoming album’s release would not be delayed and that the tour supporting it would not be cancelled.

In February 2021, the tour was postponed for a second time and was supposed to be starting in January 2022 on his home soil in Vancouver, Canada.

However, the tour was postponed once more in October 2021, with it now set to begin in the summer of 2022.

This postponement was more welcome than the previous two, though, as along with it came the announcement that it would no longer be an arena tour and instead be a stadium tour.

The Grammy award winner also announced that, with the release of his latest album ‘Until Dawn’ at the beginning of 2022, the tour would incorporate songs from that album to form the ‘After Hours til Dawn' tour.

Doja Cat was originally scheduled to be the opening act for the North American leg of the tour, however, she pulled out due to tonsil surgery.

Toronto’s Rogers Centre was to be the first stop on the tour on 8th July, however, it was forced to be postponed at the last moment due to the 2022 Rogers Communications Outage which affected the venue’s operations. The show was rescheduled to 22nd September, with a second date added for the 23rd of September.

And then there was his second show in Inglewood, Los Angeles at SoFi Stadium on 3rd September.

Abel ended the show in the middle of “Can’t Feel My Face”, saying to the disappointed crowd, and later on his social media, that his voice went out during his first song and that he didn’t want to give the fans anything but his best for the concert.

The show was subsequently rescheduled for 26th September, with a second show added for the 27th.

What has The Weeknd been up to?

The Academy Award nominee has kept himself busy all this time. In 2021, he performed the Super Bowl LV halftime show, a massive achievement for any artist.

Most recently, Abel has promoted the upcoming American drama TV series named ‘The Idol’, in which he created and would have a leading role. The show is set to be released in 2023.

He also does philanthropic work, donating to and working with many different charities and organisations.

In October 2021, Tesfaye was appointed as a UN Goodwill Ambassador for the World Food Programme after he donated $1,000,000 through the United Nations World Food Programme earlier in the year.

Then, in March 2022, he partnered with WFP to launch the XO Humanitarian Fund. The fund would see him donate $1 from every ticket sold for his ‘After Hours til Dawn’ tour, as well as a $500,000 donation.

When did The Weeknd last release an album?

The Weeknd’s last album was titled ‘Dawn FM’ and was released on 7th January 2022.

The album received widespread acclaim from critics, receiving strong ratings all around, particularly from ‘The Guardian’ and ‘The Time’, who both gave it four out of five stars.

With a second album coming before the start of the tour, Tesfaye took the decision to combine his two latest albums to make the ‘After Hours til Dawn’ tour.

When is The Weeknd’s UK tour?

On 28th November 2022, The Weeknd announced on his social media channels the second leg of his tour, now calling it a global stadium tour.

The second leg includes dates and cities in Europe and South America, with the singer visiting Spain, Italy, France, Brazil, Argentina, Germany, and of course, the UK.

There are four dates for The Weeknd's UK tour; 10th June, 7th July, 8th July and 18th August.

It has been maintained throughout that those who brought tickets for previously rescheduled shows would get priority for those same shows when they get announced.

Even now with the tour turning to a stadium tour, anybody who had already bought tickets has priority when UK dates are announced.

Where will The Weeknd perform?

As mentioned, it is no longer an arena tour but instead a stadium tour.

The multi-award winner decided to move to stadiums to accommodate more fans. With all the disappointment of it being rescheduled so many times, it’s understandable that he wanted to put on a brilliantly big performance for every show.

The first show (10th June) will be in Manchester at the Etihad Stadium, home of Manchester City.

Shows number two, three and four will be in the capital, London, with the first two (7th July and 8th July) at the London Stadium, West Ham United's home stadium.

The fourth and final show in the UK will be at Wembley Stadium, the home of English football, on 18th August.

How can I get The Weeknd tickets?

The Weeknd’s UK tour has been highly anticipated by many fans, so you could expect a Taylor Swift level of demand.

With that being said, why not look to take your experience to another level by going for premium VIP tickets instead of standard ones?
