The band made the announcement via social media with a spoof news bulletin from 'KHOT Breaking News'. The news dropped on the 30th anniversary of the band's iconic 1991 album, 'Blood Sugar Sex Magik'.

In the clip, frontman Anthony Kiedis and bassist Flea played news presentersciante 'John Hammerswaddle' and 'Todd the Squirrel', while drummer Chad Smith stars as weatherman, 'Randy Raindrops'.  Kiedis and Flea's characters interview guitarist John Frusciante who reveals that Red Hot Chili Peppers are "gonna do a tour starting in June 2022" that will cover "the whole world".

The band have played over 85 dates all around the globe on the tour so far, and still have more to come.

The tour kicked off in New York on March 29th, 2022, and is set to end in Glasgow, UK on July 23rd, 2023, however it's speculated that even more dates are going to be added!

When did the Red Hot Chili Peppers last release an album?

The Red Hot Chili Peppers last album release was their 13th project titled 'Return of the Dream Canteen'. The album came just months after the band's 12th release 'Unlimited Love'. The pair were released as a 2022 double album project, treating fans to a jam-packed year of music after the band's seven-year hiatus from releasing new material.

The two albums mark the return of founding member and lead guitarist John Frusciante after he quit the band in 2009, and he has since been praised for his performances on songs such as 'Eddie' and 'Handful'.

'Unlimited Love' debuted at number one in 16 countries and featured hits such as 'Black Summer' and 'These are the Ways', marking the band's first number-one album since “Stadium Arcadium” in 2006.

The second release, 'Return of the Dream Canteen', was a result of the band recording too much material for just one album, and deciding to split the music into two contrasting listening experiences.

Drummer Chad Smith has stated 'We thought, these go together here and these go together there and, look, we’ve got two things, both great.' when talking about the double release to Billboard.
