Megadeth are celebrating more than four decades of heavy metal with a global farewell tour and their final studio album. The band confirmed that the tour would continue over several years, giving audiences around the world opportunities to see Dave Mustaine and his bandmates perform live before this chapter of their career comes to an end.

The 2026 schedule has already included concerts across Canada, Latin America and Europe, with further North American performances confirmed for August and September.

Why Megadeth remain heavy metal icons

Megadeth were formed in 1983 and became one of the defining names in thrash metal. The band are widely recognised alongside Metallica, Slayer and Anthrax as one of the genre’s “Big Four”.

Megadeth’s final studio album

Megadeth’s self-titled final studio album, Megadeth, was released on Friday 23rd January 2026. The band’s official store identifies it as their final studio record.

The album subsequently debuted at number one on the Billboard 200 chart dated Saturday 7th February 2026. It marked an important commercial achievement during the final stage of the band’s recording career.

Mustaine described the decision as an opportunity for Megadeth to finish on their own terms and thanked fans for supporting the band throughout its career.

The band have sold more than 50 million records worldwide, according to an official statement published by Mustaine in 2024.
