Reports from April 2023 revealed that the acclaimed rock band are working on their first studio album since the addition of new guitarist Simon McBride to the lineup. McBride originally joined the band as a touring guitarist in the summer of 2022, when Steve Morse took a break to care for his wife, Janine, who was battling cancer. After Morse's departure, McBride was brought on as a full-time member.

During an interview with Brazil's A Radio Rock, the band's bassist, Roger Glover, hinted that fans could expect great things from the upcoming album. With a new lineup and McBride's impressive musical talent, anticipation is high for what promises to be an exciting release from this legendary rock group: "Well, we've just undergone a big change, because our guitarist Steve Morse had to retire from the band because he was looking after his very ill wife."

“So, we have a new guitarist in the band called Simon McBride. And it's a whole (new) experience; I mean, it's a different band."

He continued (via Blabbermouth): "In a way, we have to embrace change. You can't do the same thing over and over again, and we've had several changes, of course, over the years.

“This one is particularly exciting because we've been working on a new album. We should have a new album out by next year. And we can't stop writing. That's what we do."
