About Rangers FC

Rangers Football Club was founded in 1872 and has played home matches at Ibrox Stadium, Glasgow since 1929.

With a legacy spanning over a century, the club has become an integral part of the fabric of Scottish and European football alike. Known for its rich history, passionate fanbase, and intense rivalries, Rangers FC has etched its name not only in the annals of sports but also in the hearts of millions of supporters worldwide.

Rangers History

Rangers FC was formed on the 10th March, 1872, when a group of friends from the West End of Glasgow decided to establish a football club. They played their first match against Callander FC, and from there, the club quickly gained popularity. Rangers won their first Scottish Cup in 1877 and went on to dominate the competition, winning it a total of 34 times.

In the early 20th century, Rangers established themselves as one of the dominant forces in Scottish football. Under the management of Bill Struth, who served as manager for a record 34 years, the club won numerous league titles and domestic cups. During this period, Rangers claimed their first-ever domestic treble in the 1948-49 season, winning the league, Scottish Cup, and the League Cup.

Rangers' success extended beyond domestic competitions as they made their mark in European football. In 1972, they reached the final of the European Cup Winners' Cup, defeating Dynamo Moscow to become the first Scottish club to win a major European trophy. Their European success continued in the 1990s under the management of Walter Smith and then Dick Advocaat, as Rangers reached the UEFA Cup final in 2008.

In recent years, Rangers have faced various challenges which resulted in the club's demotion to the lower divisions of Scottish football. However, the team showed remarkable resilience and made a triumphant return to the top flight in 2016. Under the astute leadership of manager Steven Gerrard, Rangers clinched the Scottish Premiership title in the 2020-2021 season, ending their rival’s nine-year dominance.

Rangers FC Rivalries

The Rangers and the Celtic team have nurtured a historic rivalry, collectively known as the Old Firm, within the context of Glasgow's football scene. This rivalry is renowned worldwide as one of the most significant football derbies.
