Bristol Rovers was founded in 1883 and has played home matches at Memorial Stadium, Horfield since 1996.
The club’s official nickname is ‘The Pirates’, due to the maritime history of Bristol. Meanwhile, fans of the club refer to it as ‘The Gas’ because of the gasworks that were located next to its former home of Eastville Stadium.
After spending 8 of the last 9 seasons in League One, Bristol Rovers missed out on survival by just 3 points in 2024/25. The club has not been at the top of the League since the 1958-9 season when they placed sixth and were just four points from promotion.
Bristol Rovers will be competing in League Two of the EFL throughout the 25/26 season. After finishing 22nd in 24/25, Bristol Rovers will be hoping to improve their position in the upcoming season and return to League One.
Bristol Rovers biggest rivalries are with their geographically close teams, Bristol City, Cardiff City and Swindon Town.
