About Tyson Fury

The ‘Gypsy King’ Tyson Fury is without a doubt one of the greatest Heavyweight fighters of all time. His career and victories speak volumes, with the current WBC champion continually showing and proving why he is at the top of the division.

Fury’s professional career started in 2008 when he was just 20 years old. He started his career with seven fights in 10 months, winning them all via knockout within four rounds.

He had his first title opportunity against fellow countryman John McDermott for the English Heavyweight title in September 2009. Fury won the fight on points after going the full 10 rounds, but there was a rematch due to some complaints over the judge’s scoring, a rematch which again went Fury’s way.

His first big challenge came on 23rd July 2011, when he came up against his future foe-turned-friend Derek Chisora for the British and Commonwealth Heavyweight titles. Fury beat the favourite Chisora by unanimous decision.

He fought Chisora a second time in 2014, this time for the European, WBO International, and vacant British Heavyweight titles, winning again after Chisora’s corner decided to pull the fighter at the end of the tenth round. In his post-fight interview, Fury called out Wladimir Klitschko, who held the majority of the division's top titles.

Fury got his wish, with the blockbuster bout coming in November 2015. There wasn’t the most offence from both fighters, however, Fury, who was considered a significant underdog, won via unanimous decision, becoming the new heavyweight champion of the world at 27 years of age.

Unfortunately, Fury's reign as champion was short-lived, as he was stripped of his titles in 2016 due to personal issues and a suspension for testing positive for banned substances. He suffered for a few years, but announced he would be making his comeback in 2018.

He returned to ring on 9th June 2018 against Sefer Seferi and instantly showed the boxing world he was looking to return to the top by winning by retirement in the fourth round.

Since his return, Fury has established himself at the top of the pack. His legendary trilogy bouts against American Deontay Wilder are remembered as three of the greatest heavyweight duals of all time. He won the WBC title off of Wilder in their second fight in 2020 and has held it ever since.

Most recently, he fought Chisora to complete their trilogy at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, winning once again.
