About Wet Wet Wet

Wet Wet Wet is a Scottish soft rock band formed in 1982. They gained popularity in the 1980s and 1990s with a number of hits in the UK charts and internationally. One of their most well-known songs is their 1994 cover of The Troggs' 1960s hit "Love Is All Around," which was featured on the soundtrack of the film Four Weddings and a Funeral. The song spent 15 weeks at the top of the British charts and was a global success.

The band has had two periods of activity, with the first spanning from 1982 to 1997 and the second starting in 2004 and continuing to the present. Wet Wet Wet formed in Glasgow, Scotland, and took their name from a Scritti Politti song. They have been one of the most successful British bands of the 1980s and 1990s. Over the course of their career, they have sold over 15 million singles and albums.

The Band

Wet Wet Wet was initially formed by four friends: Marti Pellow (vocals), Tommy Cunningham (drums), Graeme Clark (bass), and Neil Mitchell (keyboards). Pellow's soulful voice became a defining characteristic of the band's sound.

Debut Album

The band's debut album, "Popped In Souled Out," was released in 1987 and spawned three top-ten singles in the UK: "Wishing I Was Lucky," "Sweet Little Mystery," and "Angel Eyes (Home and Away)".

In 1994, Wet Wet Wet gained massive international success with their cover version of "Love Is All Around." The song, as mentioned earlier, spent 15 consecutive weeks at the top of the UK charts.

Apart from their successful singles, the band released numerous albums throughout their career. Some notable ones include "Holding Back the River" (1989), "Picture This" (1995), and "Timeless" (2007).

Break up

In 1997, Marti Pellow made the decision to pursue a solo career, leading to a temporary breakup of the band. However, they reunited in 2004 and have continued to tour and release music since then.

Challenges

Despite the band's success, they also faced some challenges. Marti Pellow battled addiction issues but managed to overcome them and has been open about his journey to recovery.

Genre

Wet Wet Wet's music is known for its combination of pop, rock, soul, and R&B elements. Their sound often includes catchy melodies, emotional lyrics, and Pellow's powerful vocals.
