Are there Premier League games on Boxing Day?

Boxing Day promises to be an action-packed day with ten anticipated fixtures including two London derbies - Arsenal vs West Ham United and Chelsea vs Palace. Other intriguing clashes are Brighton vs Tottenham Hotspur and Sheffield United vs Luton Town, while Burnley will host Liverpool.

Arsenal will aim to maintain their impressive home form against West Ham, and Chelsea and Manchester United will look to replicate their previous 1-0 victories against Palace and Aston Villa, respectively (Premier League).

Has there ever been a Premier League game on Christmas Eve?

En.as.com reports only one Premier League game has been played on 24th December. The match took place in 1995 at Elland Road, the home of Leeds United, and featured a match against rivals Manchester United.

Led by Alex Ferguson, Manchester United had finished second in the title race the previous year, but a winless run for the club allowed Newcastle to extend their lead in the current season, widening the gap to second place.

In that game, the home team, Leeds United, managed to hold onto their lead and secured all three points, leaving Manchester United's players and fans with an upset. This event marks the only Premier League game so far to be played on 24th December in history.

Premier League Table at Christmas

Currently, Arsenal sit at the top of the table after a very impressive start to the season. Liverpool are closely following, behind by just two points.

Reigning champions Manchester City are in third place, one point behind them. And rounding out the top four is Aston Villa.

Liverpool have been back on form after an up-and-down season last year, now sitting in second place.

At the bottom of the table, Sheffield United assume the 20th spot. Two points above them is Burnley, and level one points sitting just above them is Everton.
