Words by Tom Wells

Since their debut album in 2004, Kasabian have solidified themselves as one of this generation’s premier live bands. Six consecutive number 1 albums later, and a major change in lineup since, the Leicester band are showing no signs of slowing down.

Having ticked off nearly every bucket list item for a band - From a Glastonbury headline slot, to being the soundtrack of their hometown team winning the Premier League, Kasabian have proven why the British media often dubbed them as the natural successors to Oasis in the UK rock and indie scene.

Continuing their recovery from a difficult couple of years, which saw songwriter and guitarist, Sergio Pizzorno, take up frontman duties, Kasabian will return in 2024 with their eighth studio album, ‘Happenings’.

Kasabian have released seven studio albums, with the most recent, ‘The Alchemist’s Euphoria’, being their sixth consecutive UK number 1 album.

On 15th June 2023, the ‘Shoot The Runner’ rockers released their first new material since the aforementioned album, with their single, ‘Algorithms’. Speaking about the track, frontman and songwriter, Sergio Pizzorno, said; “It’s about the human connection [...] getting together with your pals, coming to see a show. It’s what we have over the robots.”

Since the announcement of their new album, ‘Happenings’ being announced on 4th December 2023, it has not been made clear whether ‘Algorithms’ will be a part of the new album, or will remain as a standalone single.

With a new lease of life, Pizzorno noted in an interview with Radio X that the album was made during touring, and teased that it had “fed into this joyous, huge, big tune album and from it we’re gonna do our own happenings.”

When discussing the album’s title, in the same interview, Pizzorno revealed that it was inspired by “The late 60s, like Hawkwind, you’d have psychedelic happenings.”
