Out of nowhere, on 1st March 2023 Ed Sheeran surprised fans by announcing his newest album ‘Subtract’, set to be released later this year.

On top of that, he also announced a new tour to support the album that will begin very soon, giving fans very little time to properly take in all the information before getting excited for another set of live shows.

With all that being dropped so suddenly, it can be a bit hard to find the information you want. Here, we have put everything we know so far about the announcements and bring you Ed Sheeran’s tour dates and other important information.

When is Ed Sheeran’s new album being released?

Ed Sheeran announced his newest album will be named ‘Subtract’, written in the classic Sheeran style as the simple ‘-’ symbol.

It will be his sixth studio album and the fifth and final entry in his series of albums titled with mathematical symbols.

‘Subtract’ is said to speak on some of the harder events from Sheeran’s personal life in recent years, including his pregnant wife being diagnosed with “a tumour with no route to treatment until after the birth”, the death of Jamal Edwards, one of his best friends and founder of SBTV who helped kickstart Ed’s career, and the trial for plagiarism he eventually won in April 2022, when he had been accused of copying another song for his hit ‘Shape of You’.

The album is set to be released on 5th May.

What and when are Ed Sheeran’s tour dates?

Ed Sheeran previously said on the ‘Teach Me A Lesson’ podcast that his 2022/23 tour would be his last and that he would be retiring from major touring to spend more time with his wife and child.

That statement may still be somewhat true, as he currently is still performing his '+ - = ÷ x Tour' and the dates for his newly announced shows fall between his Oceania and North America legs.

As the name of the current tour suggests, his announcement of a number of live shows in the UK and Europe may just be an addition to his current tour (if you pardon the pun).

The dates and venues for his newly announced set of shows are:

  • Thursday 23rd March – AO Arena in Manchester, Manchester, England
  • Friday 24th March – The O2 Arena, London, England
  • Saturday 25th March – The O2 Arena, London, England
  • Tuesday 28th March –Hydro Arena, Glasgow, Scotland
  • Thursday 30th March –3Arena, Dublin, Ireland
  • Sunday 2nd April –Accor Arena, Paris, France

This limited run of shows are the only ones listed for him to perform in the UK and Europe for 2023. He could potentially add more dates later on, extending the current tour into 2024 and go back around the world.

Or there could be every chance that this will be it. As mentioned earlier, he has stated that his current tour will be his last, so this could be your final chance to see Ed Sheeran live on tour in the UK and Europe.

But there is also the possibility that these shows aren’t even part of the tour. His current tour has seen him playing to and selling out stadiums all around the world. These dates will see him playing at a number of bigger arenas, though, so different to the current tour.

That could be a hint that he will look to continue at a later date, but that the ‘Perfect’ singer isn’t interested in doing any more big stadium venues.
