Bahrain International Circuit Grand Prix

Formula 1’s first stop of the 2024 season will once again be in the deserts of Sakhir as the Bahrain International Circuit hosts the Bahrain Grand Prix.

The race has been the opening round of the season since the 2021 season and five times in total including the 2023 season (2006, 2010, 2021, 2022, 2023).

Bahrain International Circuit information

The Bahrain International Circuit comprises six layouts in total, with F1 racing on the Grand Prix Circuit layout, which measures 5.412 km in length.

There are 15 turns in total and three DRS (Drag Reduction System) zones - the first is located on the straight between turns three and four, the second between turns 10 and 11, and the third is down the pit straight.

The first corner was renamed to the ‘Michael Schumacher turn’ in 2014 after the legendary driver suffered an almost fatal skiing accident months before in December 2013.

‘Michael Schumacher turn’ provides a prime overtaking spot at the start and during the race, as it comes at the end of the 1km pit straight that contains a DRS zone. The tight and tricky right-hander is difficult to defend, especially as the exit then opens up into a fast left hander for turn two, so defending on the inside of turn one could leave the driver vulnerable for an attack into turn two.

Other common overtaking spots include; turn four after the first DRS zone, down the back straight in the second DRS zone, the hairpin at turn eight, and turns 14 and 15 which leads into the run down the pit straight.
