The club was formed on October 25, 1889, by the local nonconformist church minister and it initially struggled to establish a permanent stadium. The club has a unique focus on sustainability and environmental initiatives, and in 2017, Forest Green Rovers became the first football club in the world to be certified carbon-neutral by the United Nations. </p>
<p>The club's playing style emphasizes possession-based football, and they have enjoyed recent success, earning a historic promotion to the English Football League (EFL) in 2017. Forest Green Rovers have several Homegrown talents who has played an essential role in the team's success, such as Academy products such as Dom Bernard, Liam Kitching, Udoka Godwin-Malife, and Academy Graduate Odin Bailey.
